MERCURY REDBONE @ LARGE DEEP WATER CAY TOURNAMENT ?Approved? For ROLEX/IGFA Inshore Championship

Dania Beach, Florida,U.S.A. ? The International Game Fish Association (IGFA) starts the new year announcing its fourth year of the ROLEX/IGFA Inshore Championship Tournament series, an international fishing competition that draws anglers from various worldwide locations. The  Inshore Championship Tournament (ITC) will take place in the spring of 2004 in the Florida Keys, and is expected to include 2003 ITC qualifying event champions. The 2002 Rolex/IGFA ITC will take place May 4-7, 2003 at the Cheeca Lodge, Islamorada, Florida with 40 champions from ITC qualifying events vying for the championship. 

The IGFA welcomes the Mercury Redbone @ Large Deep Water Cay Tournament for its second year as a qualifying event for the ITC, with the winner being invited to compete in the ITC held in 2003. Mark Cooper will represent the 2002 tournament at the championship in May of 2003.  As an ITC qualifying event each participating angler will receive a one-year membership in IGFA. IGFA JUNIOR ANGLER WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP UPDATE

IGFA is pleased to announce the addition of two more qualifying events for the IGFA Junior Angler World Championship being held in Key West, Florida July 13 ? 15, 2003.  The winners of the Islamorada Fishing Club Junior Derby and the 38^th Annual Islamorada Junior Sailfish Derby will be receiving invitations to fish the Championship. These tournaments raise the growing number of qualifying events to 35.

The Grand Key Resort in Key West has been selected as host hotel for the Championship.  The resort is hosting the kickoff party and other activities for the tournament and its close proximity to Key West Oceanside Marina where the boats will be leaving from is very desirable. Tournament contestants will be fishing from center console boats for a variety of species available at that time of year.  IGFA representative Roger Green of Oceanside Marina is helping to organize the boats for the tournament.

Tournament directors of junior tournaments or adult tournaments with junior divisions are encouraged to contact Jim Brown, IGFA Junior Angler Program Director for complete details on how to become a qualifying event.  Parents who fish or have fished in tournaments with junior divisions should notify tournament officials of this exciting new opportunity.

Florida Billfish Masters Tournament

Dates for the 2003 edition of the ?Florida Billfish Masters Tournament? have been set for Saturday, March 22 and Sunday, March 23, 2003. The tournament will be held at the Miami Beach Marina, with check-out beginning at 7 AM and the start of fishing at 8 AM each day. Lines out is 4PM both days and the weigh-in is 4-6 PM.

The Captains meeting will be held at the Miami Beach Rod and Reel Club Friday evening from 6-9 PM with the awards being given Sunday evening at the Club.

All boats were required to use circle hooks and cut their leaders to mini-mize any damage to the fish. It appears that the 138 releases, for two days of fishing last year, proves anglers and crews adjust quickly to the new format.

Entry fee in the FBMT is $2500 per boat with 1-4 anglers with each addi-tional angler over 4 costing $625. Pay-out will be 80% of entry fees. Proceeds from the tournament will help fund the future of the Fishing and Conservation Trust, a 501c3 not for profit Florida corporation.
